Creating an alias..

Janne wrote...
hej **
can aliases only end on .riseup.net?
i am hoping to create one that is referring to my new website
(janne@ayurveda-yogaraum.de).
is that an unrealistic idea?
thanx for support and all the best to you!

Hi,

You can create aliases for email addresses for other domains but there are a couple things to keep in mind.

1) Adding an alias for another domain does not mean riseup servers will _receive_ mail when sent to that address, the servers hosting the other domain still need to do that.

2) Adding an alias for another domain only allows you to _send_ mail via riseup where your From address is set to to that alias via an identity in your email client program. Your email client still logs into riseup with your normal riseup login/password, but the From in the email is set to what you want.

3) When sending with an alias in another domain, if that domain has Sender Permitted From (SPF) DNS records to control what servers are allowed to send email for that domain, those need to be configured to list riseup's server, otherwise most servers on the internet will reject the mail. (btw I don't see any SPF records for ayurveda-yogaraum.de so this doesn't apply for you)

Hopefully this makes sense, let us know if you have any more questions

Oh and you can setup mail for your other address to forward to your riseup account, that works!

This ticket made me realize we don't have good help docs for this, we will work on it!
