Whonix / Tor + Riseup VPN for UDP

I need UDP access on a Whonix VM.

Since Tor doesn't allow UDP and only supports TCP I thought Riseup VPN would solve the issue. The connection itself works, but not UDP. Am I doing something wrong?

Hi
How are you testing your UDP connection?
I just did a test using netcat on top of RiseupVPN and it worked. I don't know how specific applications or implementations could behave using UDP on top of a VPN... as UDP doesn't check its status and the VPN connection may have some latency I would expect some problems there.

I closed your other support ticket, so we can continue on this one.

Hey,

Whonix got a nice test here through rdate and that won't work for me: https://www.whonix.org/wiki/Tunnel_UDP_over_Tor
Tried netcat too with no luck.

As I may need to say, I don't have an Riseup Account since I don't have an Invite. So I'm just using the standard Riseup VPN Client without any special configuration currently.

Yep. I used RiseupVPN (on top of a clear Internet connection, not Tor) and used nc to test a UDP link between mi computer and an external VPS: it worked (it also stopped the connection almost immediately).
Make more test with and without tor, with and without riseupvpn to have a better control of the connections and the possible variables.

RiseupVPN does not need any kind of account or configuration.I used the same application on my tests.

According to the Whonix tutorial I would need to change the standard DNS of the VM to the riseup DNS one so that all requests are going through the VPN. Which private IP adressed is used for the DNS server? My client itself gets the 10.41.0.xxx

Oh okay, managed to solve it.

For anybody who also has the same issue, follow this guide and don't forget to reload the firewall afterwards. It rejects all udp packets normally: https://forums.whonix.org/t/does-whonix-have-torrents-available/10046/8

Thanks Uso for replying here :)
