I receive an SMTP 535 error when attempting to send mail to another person’s Riseup account. I invited this person to Riseup. It’s frustrating because I have only used this single invite the entire 6+ years of belonging to Riseup. I have always treated Riseup’s invite system with utmost respect, having entered into Riseup during the days it took two invites or a documented history of activism for a person to join. I state this to stress that the person I did invite has not nor ever would abuse Riseup’s service/s. I’ve no idea why sending Riseup to Riseup mail isn’t functioning. It worked perfectly fine in the past (~1y ago). Is anyone able to see something I must be missing that would explain this behaviour?
Hi,
Can you send us the full error message? I suspect it's due to some changes to authentication and identity we recently made, rather than anything to do with your account or someone you invited.
We are now restricting the From address you can use to those you control. If that's the problem then the error message will have the details and we can help you figure it out.
Thanks

SMTP Error (535): Authentication failed.
I’m not sure of what else you need. That’s the only full error message, beyond the red lettered ‘AN ERROR OCCURRED’ above the single detail. Thank-you. Peace.
Hi,
What mail client are you using? The error you are getting is due to a problem with your client failing to authenticate correctly with the server. Double check your login name and password.
