l can get the code for Remind msgs from the Cusomizing page of my list owner pages. However I don’t know how to edit & send the Reminder. my questions:
1 I suppose the edited Reminder is to be sent to sympa@lests.riseup.net . Is this correct?
2 How is the code ( [% fromlist %] etc) supposed to be rewritten to result in a successful send? It should be fairly intuitive, but the rewrites I’ve tried don’t get me past the first line without a “can’t read” error msg from sympa. Is there a tutorial somewhere on r.n.?
3 If the r.n. programmers or owner community can’t help, should I try sympa.org? Or somewhere else?
I hope someone can help - I really need this function to keep my list current. Thanks, edagro
Hi,
The template system that sympa uses is documented at
https://ikedas.github.io/sympa-community.github.io/manual/customize/basics-templates.html
The "remind" feature is something that sympa can do to periodically send out a message to all subscribers reminding them that they are subscribed to the list and with instructions on how to unsubscribe, etc. Currently wtr-s is set to only allow listmaster (a riseup admin) to be able to trigger the sending of this message, and it is not set to periodically send it(options are disabled, 1 month, 2 months, 1 year). If you want to change these things let us know.

Thanks for the link, Roadrunner.
Only listmasters can can change the remind message interval? This doesn't make sense - how can it be set up so that list owners can decide on the interval?

* Because posting from the Admin pages is disabled I had to send the Remind message from my email client. Could that be why sympa replied with a "could not read" whether or not I replaced "From: [% fromlist %]" as is, or with various test replacements (:From: wtr-s" etc) in the Remind message code?

So, sympa’s Customised msg coding is written in perl- I should’ve recognized that. More important, of course trying to send the Remind msg from outside the admin interface won’t work. It would be nice if list owners could manage the Reminds from the Admin interface. Absent that, I’m trying out a workaround in our sandbox list that seems like it will do the job. - edagro
Hi,
Nearly all things you can do from the web interface you can also do from the email interfaces. For what you are trying to do I think it would be to mail sympa@lists.riseup.net the following:
REMIND wtr-s
and email as the list owner. But since you aren't authenticated it will reply back with an email you need to respond to for approval.
Is that what you mean?

Thanks Roadrunner. Yes, sending REMIND wtr-s from my owner account does work. It does give subscribers the option to unsubscribe themselves. It doesn’t give me any info about dead accounts or the number of lurkers. I’m about to test another way to do that. Gotta attend to my day job now. I’ll supply details later if anyone’s interested.
BTW , I sent this request as a ticket, marked to be read also by subscribers as well as riseup help. I see it as a conversation but not as a ticket. This has made it difficult for me to keep track of & answer replies. Did adding subscribers to the conversation kill the ticket? - edagro

Hi,
One way to find dead accounts and other such problems is the reviewbouncing page at
