RiseupVPN for Linux - not possible for systemd free os

Piripirilampeiro@Riseup.Net ha preguntado...
Hi!
First of all let me thank you for all the awesome work you do!

I want to know if you would consider some alternative form of installing RiseupVPN for Linux, because Snapd can't be installed on linux distros that have no systemd. https://dev1galaxy.org/viewtopic.php?id=2449
Not that few: http://without-systemd.org/wiki/index.php/Linux_distributions_without_systemd

Thank you!
Live long and prosper!

Hello,

We are working on a debian package of riseup-vpn, its getting close to being done. I suspect that this could be installed and used without systemd.

I wrote a reply but might have moved on without posting it so will try again.

@Crossbill . . . This same issue was posted again today at https://dev1galaxy.org/viewtopic.php?id=2918 nearly 2 months after your reply. Has any progress been made? Please let us know @devuan if you have managed to decontaminate snapd.

Hello,

It wont be possible to decontaminate snapd, but we are producing a debian package, and it does work. However, due to life, it is not published in a convenient way yet, but it will be soon.

Ah . . . OK. Thanks for letting me know. I will pass on that info to the user who asked that question. Unfortunately, your package wouldn't be useful to us since it's on our blacklist - https://pkgmaster.devuan.org/bannedpackages.txt

Related question . . . Debian already has a package for snapd so I'm curious why you needed to tweak it in the first place.

What I meant was we are producing a Debian package for riseup-vpn, not for snapd.

There's some misunderstanding here. According to the post at dev1galaxy, snapd is a dependency to be installed before installing your VPN. Will that dependency be removed with your customized debian package? If it still requires snapd the VPN will still be uninstallable on any non-systemd OS like Devuan.

Right now the only way to install is via snapd.

However, we've been working on the debian packaged version. This version will not require snapd to be installed. It will be installed via apt, either from our repository, or from debian.
