With the new RiseupVPN (the successor of Bitmask) turned off, i.e. a red icon is displayed in the menu bar (Mac), the internet should be blocked - at least it says so, when you click on it. Only if you choose Reconnect (green symbol) - that's how I understood it, you should be able to connect to the internet again. Here is the thing: I can definitely access the internet with the red symbol on. Is that the way it should be? With VPN Red (with Tunnelblick), I had set up a routine that cut off the internet connection in the event of a connection loss (which happened regularly btw) and only released it again when Tunnelblick was reconnected. Now I'm afraid to be visible every time the connection fails. Do I have the wrong idea? Maybe I didn't get it right, so please correct me if it's any different.
Hi,
Can you tell me what version of Mac OS X you are running, and what version of riseup-vpn this is? You are right that this should not be happening, and it would be good to look into why this happened with you.

Hi Crossbill,
I am on macOS Mojave 10.14.6 and RiseupVPN 0.19.1, hope that helps.

Thanks for the info, I've forwarded this on to the developers. We have not seen this before on Mac.
Thank you. It is still persistent though. Cheers!
Hi,
Thanks for checking in on this issue. I've nudged the developers again about it.
I've also just got my hands on a Mojave 10.14.6 machine and have just installed RiseupVPN 0.19.1. After I installed it, it connected to the VPN properly. Then I went to the green shield and I picked 'Turn Off" - this turns off the VPN and turns the shield icon to grey with an 'X' in it temporarily, and then it turns it into a red stop sign with a hand, and I can still access the internet, like you say.
I think the problem here is a UI problem - when you pick "Turn Off" in RiseupVPN, it is supposed to turn off the VPN and unblock the internet so it can be used. It is not supposed to be blocking the internet when you manually turn it off, and it is not supposed to be showing you the red stop sign with the hand when you turn it off manually! It is only supposed to show you the red stop sign *and* block your traffic if you have been disconnected from the VPN without your manual intervention.

this should be fixed in the upcoming 0.19.11 release.
can you try this build? https://0xacab.org/leap/bitmask-vpn/-/jobs/116932/artifacts/file/deploy/RiseupVPN-0.19.6-93-ge7323f2_unsigned.pkg
and let us know?

Thank you so much! I tried the build you send me and that seems to do the trick. Great! I just wasn't able to test the block of an unintentional disconnection. I thought that turning of the VPN could do that.
Great to hear, thanks!
