Delete/Archive Back Messages and/or Increase Quota?

Howdy! I'm at 92% of my quota, and I was wondering if anyone had any advice on managing a huge number of messages and deleting/archiving messages that are no longer needed. Preferably via some filter-based approach? Either way, I'd also like to look into possibly increasing my quota.

Hi,

Are you using the webmail interface? You might consider trying a mail client, here's our help page about that https://riseup.net/en/email/clients

Mail clients have some nice features like what you are talking about.

Riseup can do some inbound filtering of mail, but usually that's for filing it into folders, etc
https://riseup.net/en/email/settings/email-filters

For dealing with the quota limit, we usually recommend that people use an email client and create "local folders" to move old messages into so that they are stored on your local computer. The removes them from the server and frees up quota (and also makes it faster to sync your mail).

Make sense?

Thanks,

Thanks! Would there be a way to move every message older than, say, this year into a local folder? I'm using Thunderbird but I can use the web interface or something else if that works better for this task.

Yes, in thunderbird what I do is:
* create a new local folder named 2019 or something
* click on the date column to sort the inbox by date
* then select all the ones from the period you want to move (click on one and then shift+click on another to get a range)
* drag those messages to the new folder and it will copy them there and remove from the inbox
* confirm they are in the new folder
* click "get messages" and that will sync the change back to the server

Let us know if you have any questions
