Not receiving email

Nappilyeverafter ha preguntado...
I haven't received an email since 2016. I'm currently sending test emails back and forth from my Riseup email to my university email. I can send messages out from Riseup, but I'm not receiving any responses (or any inbound email at all.)

Edit: I have adjusted my spam sensitivity down to block the least amount possible and tested it, still not receiving any email.

My mailbox is at 16% capacity, far from full. I've tried sending & receiving mail both with and without the Riseup Bitmask VPN, so I don't think it's an ISP filtering mail. The mail does not even show up in my spam folder, "Spam folder is empty".

Edit: I removed the forwarding address, and now the mail seems to be working again. Two questions here: (1) If mail is forwarded, then a local copy is not kept? Also, (2) I wasn't receiving any of the emails that should have been forwarded to the other address. (It's a university email address that uses gmail.) Is extra configuration needed on the uni/gmail side?

Hi,

Yes, like regular mail forwarding services, the forwarding e-mail is not different. Whatever somebody sends to your riseup address we send it to the other one without doing any other kind of process.

Your mail setup can be blocking the forwarded e-mail, as if somebody@gmail.com writes to your-account@riseup.net, riseup delivers the message saying with the From: field as somebody@gmail.com and riseup is not authorized to use gmail.com as a sender address so it gets blocked. The forwarding feature is a very old one, which today mostly doesn't work because the antispam systems assume it's spam. You will need to contact your university tech people to know what to do here.

In solidarity,
u
