[Mail] I can't add email alias which contain "." anymore. If you changed your system, you should notify users for update.

Kiwitester a posé une question...
In the "alias" management website(j6uhdvbhz74oefxf.onion), I can't add email address which contain ".".

example: proofaway.kitten@riseup.net

Above string will return invalid error.

I can add other email address, like proof_tester@riseup.net

Did you changed your system? I have some email address which contain ".".
Should I change all of them? If so, please consider

1) notifying all riseup.net users about email alias. (and give us 2 months maximum)
2) Add a warning to email alias section.

If I don't have to change "." contain email addresses, then please fix your system not to return invalid errors.

multiple users have requested that we disable periods in aliases and usernames. the reason for this is that people are used to how other systems work, where you can put a "." anywhere in the address and it is ignored. for example, user.1@riseup.net would be the same as user1@riseup.net

this is a security issue, because the way we have historically treated "." creates unexpected behavior for people and could result in impersonation.

so, as a first step, we have kept existing usernames and aliases with "." but not allowed new ones to be created. next, we will give users warning that we are removing all "." from existing addresses.

What kind of email system is that? Modern mail server, such as hMailServer, use "." as alias.
For example, user1@ = user1.abcde@ = user1.oooo@.

So I shouldn't use "." in email address? Why not email about this as a newsletter or something*?

Am I allowed to use "-", "_", "+" as a alias? (If not, I might have to change email addresses ...)

which I tried to optout, but I got another one anyway. Why no optput?
I don't want newsletter. I want to "subscribe" it via RSS, so I don't have to open email every time.

You know, not all people use email service. Some of them use your account for XMPP only, list only, or so on.

Please consider adding a checkbox to your user control menu;

=========
[X] Yes, email me monthly newsletter.
We suggest you to subscribe this RSS feed, if you don't want newsletter email.
